A Google Business Profile can show hours, a phone number, photos, reviews and a button to call. That is enough for some searches. It is not a website. The listing is a card. The website is where you explain the work, show jobs, and take a quote request without cramming it into a three-line description.
What the listing is good at
- Showing you on the map and in the local pack for nearby searches.
- Tap-to-call and directions.
- Hours, including holiday closures if you keep them updated.
- Reviews from people who actually hired you.
- A handful of photos and short posts.
If someone already knows your name and only needs the number, the listing can close that loop. If they need to compare services, see a recent job, or send details after hours, the card runs out of room.
What the website is for
Service pages that match how people search ("roofing in Saskatoon", not only "we do it all"). A gallery you control. A quote form that reaches the owner. The same name, phone and city as the listing, so the two do not contradict each other. Answer engines and regular results both read those pages; the listing does not replace them.
Facebook, Instagram and Marketplace can send work. They are rented space. Hours, URLs and login rules change. A site on a domain you own, with logins in your name, is the place those profiles should point.
You want both, kept in agreement. A complete listing pointing at a site that fails on a phone wastes the click. A beautiful site with no listing is harder to find on the map. See how map results work and Saskatoon website design.
A practical order of work
- Claim the Google Business Profile. Honest name, category, phone, service area or address, website URL.
- Make the website usable on a phone, with a quote path that arrives.
- Match the facts: name, phone, hours, city.
- Then add service pages, photos and listing posts. Ads after that, if you want them.
JTM's Local Proof Sprint is the 30-day version of that order at CA$1,500. Website Care keeps both sides updated at CA$450 a month. Start with the free website check or ask for a walkthrough.
